Explore the Best Hiking Trails in Alabama

Alabam’s Gulf Coast is known for sandy beaches, tranquil waters, and warm sunshine. However, there is more to discover during your stay at a vacation rental from Beachball Properties. Wander in and out of charming shops in Orange Beach or explore the unique things to do in Fort Morgan. Whether you’re planning a family vacation or a romantic escape, a great way to explore is on the best hiking trails in this area of Alabama.

Where to Go Hiking in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach

Hitting up a local hiking trail is a fantastic way to surround yourself with stunning Alabama nature while enjoying a relaxing adventure. The variety of trails found throughout Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Fort Morgan means you can find one that fits your group perfectly.

  • Explore nine different ecosystems on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail in Gulf State Park. There are seven trails that total more than 15 miles of pathway through Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.

  • Some of the last remaining undisturbed coastal habitats are in Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, which features a network of trails part of Alabama’s Coastal Connection. The trails give you a chance to view different habitats like wetlands and maritime forests.

  • Wander the Gopher Tortoise Trail inside Gulf State Park for a family-friendly trail. The 2.2-mile out and back path takes you through picturesque woods and coastal waters.

  • The Fort Morgan Road Trail is a 5-mile paved trail that starts just outside of Gulf State Park. Make your way through tree-lined neighborhoods before reaching the end at the Peninsula Golf Club.

  • Explore the elevated boardwalks that provide views of the wetlands that join Lake Shelby and Little Lagoon at Wade Ward Nature Park. Keep your eyes open for pelicans, otters, and the occasional alligator.
